Miss Granny introduces us to 74 year old Oh Mal Su (Na Moon Hee), a granny with a tough exterior who happens upon a magical portrait studio that makes her regain the appearance of a 20 year old. She takes on the name Oh Doo-Ri played by Shim Eun Kyung. With the appearance of a young woman and the attire and hair of a Korean Ahjumma (Aunt/middle aged woman), comedy ensues as she tried to figure out how to start her new life without letting her family and friends know.
With her regained youth, she does what any young girl would do. She revamps her style, gets a haircut like Audrey Hepburn and lands the lead singer role of her grandson's rock band. Though her appearance is young, her mannerism and the way she speaks is that of an old woman, which makes many scenes hilarious. Of course, with any film, the carefree nature eventually has to come to an end. No spoilers though!
In the end, I really really enjoyed this film. Many scenes had me laughing out loud, the music in the film was very pretty and the storyline was very cute. Even though there have been films in the past where people go back in time and have the chance to relive their youth, this one was different from the rest. It definitely won't feel like you are watching a movie you have already seen before. Since I have a pretty good background on Korean culture (as I also lived there for a year) a lot of the humor came easily to me, however, as someone who may not know as much, I am not sure if the funny scenes will translate as easily. Even so, it is still a fun watch.
