Confession of Murder 내가 살인범이다 2012- South Korea

Confession of Murder (내가 살인범이다) is a 2012 South Korean thriller from director Jung Byung-gil. Upon its release, the film reached 2nd place within its first week in theatres and was winner for best screenplay at the Baeksang Arts Awards and best director at Grand Bell Awards. This was the first mainstream motion picture Director Jung released, however, he had drawn in interest with his 2008 documentary release, Action Boys.

The film stars Jung Jae Young (Castaway on the Moon) and Park Si Hoo (Cheongdamdong Alice) in a revenge filled film of cat and mouse. This film is currently streaming on Netflix, so make sure to check it out!

Confession of Murder follows Detective Choi Hyun-Goo (Jung Jae Young), who failed to catch a serial killer who had kidnapped and murdered 10 women, including his girlfriend. Fast forward 17 years to when the statue of limitation expires, and prosecution for this case deems impossible.

It just so happens that a man named Lee Doo-Seok (Park Si Hoo) releases a book titled I am the Murderer, in which he claims responsibility for all 10 murders that happened those many years ago. With his charming, young features, he becomes a sensation to the press and young girls and his book sky rockets to number 1.

Though many are unsure if he is telling the truth, his book holds evidence that only the killer and police would know, making it difficult to pass his book off as fake. Soon after he surfaces, family members of the victims band together to figure out how they can kidnap and kill Lee Doo Seok. The come up with an indepth plan, and almost pull it off. Their plan also leads to a very, very ridiculous car chase that may remind viewers of Fast and Furious films, except even more ridiculous.
The film heats up though during a show both Detective Choi and Doo-Seok are attending. A mysterious caller named "J" not only confesses to be the real killer and also drops personal facts about Choi only he would know. To spare readers from any spoilers, I will stop the summary here, so make sure you check it out!

I really enjoyed this film, not only because of its revenge storyline that is very popular in Korean cinema, but because it was something different. It was interesting to have a killer confessing and including the statue of limitation laws to add suspense to an already crazy story. Aside from the over dramatic car chase scene, everything else about this film was great. Park Si Hoo isn't bad to look at either, and I liked how they casted someone so good looking and charming, but also someone who you could very well think could be a bad guy at the same time. This film is definitely worth a watch.
